Spanish Language Teacher

Kindergarten through Grade 6

Requirements

We are seeking a Spanish Language Teacher to work with Primary and Middle School students across mixed-grade cohorts (Kindergarten through 6th Grade).

In our international environment, the goal of Spanish instruction is to help students develop confidence in conversational Spanish, while gaining cultural understanding of the Dominican Republic and the Spanish-speaking world.

Students come from diverse linguistic backgrounds, so lessons emphasize communication, real-life situations, cultural experiences, and joyful language learning.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A - Professional Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Languages, or related field
  • Native or near-native Spanish speaker
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching Primary and/or Middle School
  • Ability to create engaging, interactive language learning experiences
  • Strong class management and communication skills
  • Native level English fluency

B - Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Education, Languages, or related field
  • Experience teaching Spanish as a second language
  • Experience working in an international school environment
  • Comfort teaching mixed-aged groups
  • Interest in culture-based and experiential learning

    Creating a class environment where students feel safe, respected, and supported.
  • Adaptability & Flexibility
    Comfort working with mixed-age groups and adjusting teaching strategies to different learning styles, developmental stages, and group dynamics.

    Clear, respectful communication with students, colleagues, and families. Ability to explain concepts simply, give constructive feedback, and maintain open dialogue with the school community.

    Confidently guiding your class with warmth and consistency. Setting clear expectations while maintaining a nurturing atmosphere.
  • Creativity in Teaching
    Ability to design engaging learning experiences using hands-on materials, movement, outdoor exploration, and interdisciplinary connections

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

A - Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging Spanish language lessons focused on speaking, listening, and real-life communication
  • Design lessons that encourage participation, curiosity, and enjoyment of language learning
  • Create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable speaking and experimenting with language
  • Support students in developing confidence using Spanish in everyday situations
  • Adapt instruction to mixed-aged groups, abilities, and language levels
  • Incorporate games, movement, songs, storytelling, and activities to support language acquisition
  • Introduce students to Dominican culture, traditions, and local life
  • Create opportunities for students to practice Spanish in authentic and situational contexts
  • Encourage collaboration and communication within mixed age groups.
  • Support respectful interactions and confidence-building in language learning

B - Leadership & Community

  • Collaborate with colleagues and the sports department to organize and host an annual school-wide Carnaval celebration that highlights Dominican culture
  • Integrate cultural traditions, music, and vocabulary into student learning
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to support cross-curricular connections
  • Participate in school events and community activities
  • Report to School Director

C - Assessment, Documentation & Family Communication

  • Prepare weekly updates and semester reports highlighting student progress
  • Document individual and group learning through observations, reflections, and photographs
  • Maintain consistent, responsive communication with families, sharing updates on language development
  • Help make learning visible by sharing class experiences and projects
